Timber drying training course in Ninhthuan Print E-mail
As a natural types of material, during growing up, trees alway contain a large amount of water. When a tree is cut, the moisture content of that tree tends to balance with the equivalent moisture content (EMC) of the surrounding air.

The change of the moisture content in timber will influence its properties such as strength, ability to self-protect against insects attack and dimension. Therefore, in order to increase the ability of self-protection against insects attack, effectiveness of preservative treatments and especially to stablize timber dimension, timber needs to be dried in the proper way for other processing processes and further use.
There are many factors affecting drying process and dried sawn timber quality. In order to get dried sawn timber with good quality, drying area managers and kiln operators should know how to select the suitable kiln procedures and proper kiln operation skills. Thus, they need to be well-equipped with the basic knowledge of timber drying.

With the objecties to provide basic timber drying knowledge for timber drying area managers and kiln operators, Component 2 – Processing, Trade and Maketing of Forest Products – Vietnamese-German Forestry Program will organize basic timber drying training course in Ninh Thuan from 28th to 30th of july, 2009 with the contents as follows:

o    General structure of wood
o    Water in wood
o    Reasons for drying
o    Factors affecting drying
o    Moisture content determination
o    Basic kiln operating procedure
o    Monitoring the progress of drying
o    Drying defects
o    Instruction for trainees to use proper equipment to control drying process
o    Correction of mistakes during drying
