2009 Study Tour to Germany Print E-mail
Component 2 Processing, Trade and Marketing of Forest Products (PTM) of the Vietnamese –German Forestry Programme will organize a Study Tour to Germany from 13th – 26th May 2009.
The overall objective of the Study Tour is to help participants learn about the advanced German forest & wood processing sector and the German indoor market in order to strengthen the competitiveness of the Vietnamese wood processing sector in this market. Furthermore, state decision makers will get an understanding of the cooperation between the governmental and the private sector in forestry and wood processing to be able to apply similar strategies in Vietnam. During the tour, visits to the State forest enterprise of Lower Saxony will introduce basics of sustainable forest management and timber trade. In sawmills, the group will have the chance to see the processing of wood from natural forest and plantations. The sawing technology of small diameter logs will also be introduced. Besides, the group will visit several retailers and furniture warehouses to get an inside view of the German furniture market structure and actual consumers’ requirements. During the visit to an international certification body, the participants can discuss the latest development of FSC Forest management certification and Chain of Custody. The visit to the two international fairs namely Interzum and Ligna will give an overview about the supply industry like fittings, surfaces, timber-derived products, natural materials, upholstery materials and show the latest stage of the art in wood processing technology
The members of the Study Tour delegation are the representatives of MARD, Forestry Department, International Cooperation Department, Department of Agro-Forestry-Aquatic Products Processing, Trading and Salt Industries and representatives from the pilot province Kontum as well as members of Global Forest & Trade Network Vietnam (GFTN, Vietnam).
The PTM Team and GFTN will agree with all participants on individual goals for the study tour and define during the visits follow up measures to be implemented in their work and business fields after the return to Vietnam.
A post evaluation of the study tour will show if the proposed objectives and results have been achieved and will orientate the PTM team to improve the assistance to the sector. More detailed information of the Study Tour can be seen in Study Tour category in Download area of this Website.
